Choosing the right location can make all the difference in your photos. If you’re a mom looking for a relaxed, beautiful spot in North Indianapolis, you have plenty of great options. North Indy offers parks with open space, wooded trails, water features, and manicured gardens that photograph beautifully in every season. Below are some of the best photoshoot locations in North Indy for maternity, family, and milestone sessions.

Why North Indy Is The Best for Outdoor Photoshoots

North Indianapolis is known for its well-maintained parks and natural variety. Many locations offer multiple looks within a short walk, which means more variety without feeling rushed — ideal when kids or expecting moms are involved.

These parks are especially great for:

  • Maternity sessions
  • Family photos
  • Motherhood and milestone sessions
  • Lifestyle-style portraits

West Park (Carmel)

West Park is one of the most versatile photo locations in North Indy and one of my favorites. It features open fields, tall grasses, paved walking paths, and a bridge over water that work beautifully in both soft morning light and golden hour.

This park is especially great if you want:

  • Clean, natural backdrops
  • Space for kids to move freely
  • A quiet, low-stress environment

Fall colors and summer greenery both photograph beautifully here.

Newfields (Indianapolis)

Newfields offers a refined, artistic backdrop that feels both natural and elevated. The gardens, walking paths, and landscaped grounds create a soft, polished look that photographs beautifully in every season.

This location is ideal for moms who want:

  • A more editorial, museum-garden feel
  • Clean lines mixed with greenery
  • A calm, curated environment

Spring blooms and early fall foliage are especially stunning here, and weekday sessions tend to be the least crowded. This location does require a permit but its so worth it

Flowing Well Park (Carmel)

Flowing Well Park is small but incredibly charming. The creek, stone features, and mature trees make it feel intimate and tucked away — perfect for relaxed motherhood or maternity sessions.

This park works best for:

  • Simple, natural portraits
  • Barefoot, lifestyle-inspired photos
  • Summer and early fall sessions

It’s especially lovely if you prefer a quieter location without large crowds.

Cool Creek Park (Westfield)

Cool Creek Park offers a mix of wooded trails, boardwalks, and open spaces that photograph well year-round. The variety makes it easy to capture both candid moments and more polished portraits. It’s definitely got more of a wooded vibe.

This location is ideal for:

  • Family sessions with young kids
  • Nature-focused photos
  • Sessions where variety matters

Coxhall Gardens (Carmel)

Coxhall Gardens is perfect if you love a refined, elegant look. With manicured lawns, stone archways, water features, and European-inspired architecture, it feels elevated without being overdone.

Best for:

  • Maternity sessions with a classic feel
  • Coordinated family outfits
  • Clients who want a more styled look

Spring and early summer are especially beautiful here.

How to Choose the Right Photoshoot Location

When deciding on a location, think about:

  • How far you want to walk
  • Whether your kids need space to move
  • The overall mood you want (natural vs. polished)
  • The season of your session

If you’re unsure, I help clients choose locations based on lighting, crowd levels, and the type of photos they want.
